Today in 6A!

Since the academics of our year have officially ended, this week will largely be about embracing our community in different ways. Today we read our children's story books that we worked so hard on to members of our target audience, the Kindergarten class. Here we got some valuable feedback on our efforts to learn how we might improve our stories in the future.

We later watched the movie that follows-up our "I Am Malala" read, "He Named Me Malala" on Netflix. This documentary puts images to what we read in her autobiography and we hear it from her and her family directly. Additionally this film is a nice continuance of the book, adding details about where her life has come to.

Tomorrow students will be returning their Chromebooks so please ensure all chargers and Chromebook materials that were leant out by the school, make their way back here tomorrow.

Today in 6A!

SOCIAL STUDIES: Students wrote their final test of the year, this time for Ancient Rome. The scores for this test are on Sycamore for all students who cannot possibly wait until Monday to se their test.

REMINDERS: While we are now finished with our academics for the school year, we do still have a week of classes left. We ask that students bring their backpacks to school for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is TBA. Thursday and Friday we hopefully will not have any need for bags.

There is no homework. There are no more tests to prepare for. Assignments are all turned in. Enjoy a stress-free weekend!

Today in 6A!

RELIGION: Students wrote their final quiz of the year. Final grades will be posted this evening.

ENGLISH: Students were expected to come to class with their illustrations completed and be ready to mount their pages on foam board for presentation. We will have a trial run-through tomorrow for our own class and then next week we will be presenting these to the TYKE and Kinder classes. Some of these children's books look as though they could be done by professionals. Do I sense some future writers in this class??

LITERATURE: Students finished writing their personal letters to Malala. Once both classes have submitted this assignment, I will add postage and send them to the Malala Fund with hopes of receiving a response. Fingers crossed!

SOCIAL STUDIES: Today's class was an additional review period where students could ask questions about the material and test. Our test will be tomorrow after recess and will be the last assessment for the school year. YAY!

Today in 6A & 6B

ENGLISH: Students continued illustrating their children's story books. Tomorrow students will be assembling their stories on foam board so that it can be presented to, first, our class, and second, the Tyke and Kinder classes. Illustrations therefore need to be completed tonight in order to complete tomorrow's task.

RELIGION: We continued reading about the age of Israelite Kings, the Who's and How's of succession and what characteristics made good Kings. Later we read about the use of oil in our ceremonies/rituals in the church, and where they come from. Our open-book quiz will be tomorrow.

SCIENCE Finish Science Packet Chp 8 Test Tomorrow

SOCIAL STUDIES: After taking up yesterday's homework, I posted the recommended review for Friday's final test of the year. Some helpful hints: The definitions are all BLUE terms that are more than 2-3 word definitions, and do not contain people. The matching section is names to a description of who the person was. These are broad "what are they known for" descriptions, and not obscure details that would be hard to find.

Today in 6A & 6B

ENGLISH: Students worked on their illustrations for their children's stories. This will require some work at home in order to be completed in time for our deadline of Thursday. Students need to keep in mind the grading criteria for their illustrations: They must enhance the text, the art style needs to be consistent, and someone who cannot read should be able to know what is happening in the story by just looking at the pictures.

LITERATURE: Students began writing a personal letter to Malala Yousafzai. The assignment is posted on Google Classroom for both 6A and 6B and will be completed in class Thursday.

RELIGION: In keeping with the theme of leadership and stemming from last week's examination of the Judges, this week's lesson talks about the first kings of the nation of Israel.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Today's lesson is the last of our year and our unit on ancient Rome. Here we talked about the multi-faceted decline of the Roman Empire. Homework for this section can be found on page 584 #1-6.
